DIAG’S RESPONSE TO THE MEDIA STATEMENT ISSUED BY THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF DENVER (DPOD) AND THE COLORADO DEMOCRATIC PARTY (CDP)
THE WASHINGTON STATE DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR

Welcome. Step into our time machine, as we travel back almost two and a half years to visit our old friends, the Colorado Democratic Party and the Democratic Party of Denver, who in April of 2024, accused us of being “a viciously anti-trans organization” and demanded we remove the word “Democrats” from our name. They also threatened to “bring the matter to the attention of the next State Central Committee” and “follow up with additional action should this request not be immediately accommodated." 

 

In response to these Soviet-esque commands, we invited them to an open forum discussion on X. To everyone’s surprise, we never heard from them again.

 

Until now.

 

On Monday August 31st, we received an almost identical attack from the Chair of the Washington State Democratic Party, Shasti Conrad:

 

“…I call upon this viciously anti-trans organization to cease using our Party as cover for their hate-filled agenda.”

  

“Washington Democrats call upon each chapter to immediately cease using the Party name in their organization title” and “Washington Democrats have no affiliation with this out-of-state, out-of-touch organization meddling in our initiative process.”

Colorado apparently took the slow road, but their important message of inclusivity and tolerance finally made its way northward to their comrades in WA state.

 

Like our old friend, Shad Murib in Colorado, Conrad believes that:

 

• Recognizing human biology is a form of hate speech and bigotry

• Protecting the sex based rights of women and girls is “transphobia,” 

• Engaging in the democratic process is “meddling.”

• The Democratic party gets to determine who is a Democrat and who isn’t

 

Conrad is wrong.

 

As we reminded our friends in Colorado, the Democratic Party doesn't own the rights to the word "Democrat," and we don't need their approval to use it. 

 

DIAG is an organization of long-standing Democratic voters who are deeply concerned about the Party's embrace of gender ideology and their refusal to engage in necessary discourse on this dangerous, anti-science movement — particularly when it comes to protecting vulnerable people from an ongoing medical scandal and upholding women's rights.

 

The Washington State Democratic Party may insist that everyone who considers themselves a Democrat agree on every issue, but this is not how democracy works. Democrats like Murib and Conrad who try to stifle free speech should be ashamed. 

 

Polls show a majority of Democratic voters support the preservation of women-only sports and believe parents must be fully informed on important decisions regarding their child’s health. Does the Washington State Democratic Party really believe these voters should be excluded from the party? 

 

Washington is currently poised to address these issues in two measures on the ballot this November:

 

I-638 will protect fairness in girls’ sports by prohibiting males from competing in female athletics. 

 

IL26-001 strengthens communication between parents and schools by re-enacting I-2081 — a measure that garnered over 400,000 signatures and was passed into law, and then watered down in the legislature the following year.

These laws would help restore protections for young female athletes and restore rights for parents that were wrongfully eliminated.

 

We’d like to extend the same invitation to the Washington State Dems as we did to our friends in Colorado:

 

Please join us in a live public roundtable discussion on X on the topic of free speech in the Democratic Party and how politicians, clinicians, parents, and other stakeholders can best support those who are struggling to accept their sexed body, can protect the rights of women and girls, and can make sure our schools aren’t telling gay and neurodiverse youth they were born wrong and need to be medically fixed. This is an opportunity to have a civil discussion despite disagreement and provide the public with a better understanding of the issues and positions.

Washington Democratic Party Chair Condemns Anti-Transgender Group “Democrats for an Informed Approach to Gender”

California-based anti-trans organization is listed as a signer for the “For” arguments on Let’s Go Washington’s initiatives in Washington Voter’s Pamphlet

​

Seattle, WA – Washington Democrats’ Chair Shasti Conrad condemns use of the Party name in the anti-trans organization “Democrats for an Informed Approach to Gender” (DIAG) and calls upon the organization to cease usage of the word “Democrats” in their organization name.

Chair Shasti Conrad released the following statement:

“There is no place for hate in Washington state. Our transgender community deserves the same safety and welcome in the Democratic Party as anyone else and I call upon this viciously anti-trans organization to cease using our Party as cover for their hate-filled agenda. Transphobia has no place in the Washington State Democratic Party. To our trans and nonbinary members of our community, we say unequivocally — you belong, you make our Party stronger, you are loved, and we stand with you in the fight against all forms of bigotry and hate. 

 

“Let every Washington voter know, Washington Democrats have no affiliation with this out-of-state, out-of-touch organization meddling in our initiative process. Washington Democrats urge every voter to vote ‘NO’ on every statewide initiative on your ballot in the November General Election pushed by MAGA mega millionaire Brian Heywood that seeks to take our state backward.”

According to a map posted on the organization’s website, DIAG touts multiple chapters in Washington state.* Washington Democrats call upon each chapter to immediately cease using the Party name in their organization title.
